Missionary Files: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Files

San Elizario, Texas: Home of the First Thanksgiving?

For the longest time, I have told people that the first Thanksgiving happened in San Elizario, Texas. It didn’t occur in Plymouth Rock; it happened in San Eli. Then, about a year ago, I took someone out to see the first El Paso County Jail, and we bumped into Al Borrego.

Restaurant Review: A Bite of Belgium

A Google search of “German restaurants in Las Cruces” doesn’t mention any. It does, laughably, include Wienerschnitzel for some odd reason.

Some Favorite Shots

Film is magical. You have one shot, one try to get the photo you envision. If not, you’re out a few rolls of film searching for that one shot. For the most part, when I have a shot in mind, I will meticulously plan for it and work towards it. Life, however, does not happen with planning.

My Art

Fading From Memory: Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church

Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church is high above Sierra Blanca, Texas. It’s a modern Church built to replace an aging structure closer to I-10. That older Church sits empty and lonely, seeming bereft of hope and a future.

The Evangelism of a Catholic Cemetery

Catholic cemeteries serve as a perpetual reminder that death is just a part of the journey that leads to new life. Catholic cemeteries are sacred places that strive to create an environment conducive to prayerful visitation and are reminders of the promise of the resurrection of the spirit.

Death

Through death, the Christian enters eternal life (Rom. 6:23). Belief in the resurrection anchors the Christian’s hope in the face of suffering and death. Because death is anticipated and integrated into one’s daily life, the Christian can embrace death serenely as the culmination of life.
